Do you remember I mentioned one of my best girls was getting married?? Well she did and now she’s a Mrs and has a hubby and everything!!
Firstly I wanted to say Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Farley, they met at a friends wedding and in turn fell in love.. And there we were on Saturday watching them both say “I do”.
So if you remember me blogging about their upcoming nuptials then you probably remember that I was to to the wedding cake! MY FIRST WEDDING CAKE!!!!!
The build up to the making of the cake was far worse than actually putting it together, maybe I should listen to my friends and family when they tell me to shut up and that I can do this… So to them Thankyou, Thankyou Helena and Tom for asking me to make your wedding cake, Helena you are always pushing me and telling me I can do it Thankyou! Now to some- mainly the bride the wedding cake is very important, some really don’t mind but other desperately want it to match in with the theme perfectly so I really felt the pressure, and then some as I was due to be part of the bridal party- a bridesmaid.
After multiple mind changes (Helena 😉) we had settled on a design, three tiered, white iced cake with Autumnal leaves around the cake and it was to stand on a chunk of wood to roll with the rustic look of the wedding. This is where my Thomas came in, he provided Helena with the wooden rounds for her centre pieces so we went off to the yard one afternoon, kids in tow and picked the perfect piece.. Right at the bottom of the log pile much to atoms dismay!!!
Driving an hour to the venue with the cake in the boot was the most nerve wrecking drive I have ever done, up there with my practical driving test! Every bump I tried to avoid, every deep drain cover was driven around and I left so much room to the car in front in case they put on the stops urgently, when I opened the boot I felt sick, I knew the cake was still standing as I hadn’t heard any mishaps but I was worried the odd leaf may have cracked, now this wouldn’t have been the end of the world as I had plenty of spares but I LOVED it as it was and didn’t want to change the leaves for others. It was all intact!!! Hallelujah!!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
All I had to do was put the cake on the wood on the table and when it was I felt this massive weight lift.. I actually had nightmares about the delivery, even my partner did.. What if I ruined the cake and Helenas big day??) I added the last leaf (a large one at the front which over hung on to the wood stand and the toppers which were handmade by the bride herself!!! Remember she’s a Disney fan!? So these two pine cones where a Mr and Mrs Micky and Minnie Mouse!
