Cheats Crumble 🍎

Sometimes you just gotta cheat a little when it comes to food….
Today I decided to use up some cooking apples and make a crumble, add in a few pink ladies and some pineapple pieces and ready made crumble topping… Why not!? Ok I only added the pineapple to bulk out the dish, but I’m quite glad I did. I’d never heard of Apple and pineapple crumble before.

Two pros to this: Firstly and most improtantly I don’t end up with butter and flour under my nails and secondly it’s super quick and yes I know making crumble topping from scratch is pretty simple but… I steer you back to my first point πŸ˜‚.

The con, I’m sure if would taste 100x better made from scratch but hey!

When I make crumble I never follow a recipe I kinda just chuck everything in to taste. But if I had to guess, I think this is what it was.

  • 2 cooking apples peeled, cored and cut into small pieces.
  • 2 pink ladies apples peeled, cored and cut into small pieces.
  • 2 small tins of pineapple pieces or crushed.
  • 50-100g golden caster sugar or Demerara sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • Ready made crumble mix.
  • Splash of water – maybe a few tablespoons.
  • Teaspoon of brown sugar to top.

Pre heat oven to 200c / gas mark 6.

Firstly put all the apples, pineapple, sugar and water into a pan and heat until as smooth/ tender you would like. I dislike chunky apples in my crumble and make my crumble quite smooth with very tender Apple pieces although this picture looks chunkier than my normal crumble)

When ready transfer the lot to an oven proof dish, smooth and top with the crumble mix.

Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake for around 25 minutes, or if your not ready to bake straight away cover and leave to cool on the side til you are, put into the fridge if leaving over night.

I’m thinking some cinnamon or sultanas would have gone down well in this crumble!

What do you eat your crumble with? Cream, ice cream, custard??

Out of choice I’d have ice cream but today I only had custard in the cupboard! Still Yum!!
